01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Though rooted as an everyday teishoku eatery, Torai Shokudo presents an extensive line-up running from classic Chinese staples to aromatic grilled fish and raw seafood bowls. With so many options available, deciding between a hearty meat stir-fry or a lighter fish dish becomes an enjoyable part of every order.
The combinations featured in daily specials and combination plates stand out in particular. Pairing sweet-spicy chilli prawns with fragrant pork ginger-yaki on a single tray offers robust, rice-friendly satisfaction. The menu also covers a generous selection of stir-fry sets, including pork and onion shogayaki, pork and aubergine cooked with miso, and liver stir-fried with garlic chives, providing hearty portions when hunger calls.
The seafood options are just as compelling as the Chinese fare. Nicely grilled salmon, mackerel, and hokke (Okhotsk atka mackerel) are offered as salt-grilled sets, alongside fresh sashimi plates and seafood donburi tossed in savoury sauce. Diners can also opt for combinations like ramen seasoned with toasted sesame oil alongside half-portions of fried rice, or add bite-sized gyoza dumplings to match their appetite.
Table seating fills the dining area, accommodating solo visits for routine lunches as readily as small groups in the evening. With beer, highballs, and small sharing plates on hand, the restaurant suits casual meals at midday as well as unhurried evening drinks.
